Welcome
Team Tom, consisting of Tom Sauer and Tom Fancett will be crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat! They leave December 4th 2011 from the Canary Islands and are hoping to reach Barbados, in the Caribbean, late January 2012. They will be the 2nd youngest pair ever to participate and Tom Sauer will be the youngest Dutch and Russian to ever row an ocean.

ABOUT US
Name: Tom Sauer
Age: 23
From: Holland/Russia
Hello and welcome! I am Tom Sauer, the better looking half of Team Tom!
I am 23 years of age, meaning I will be the youngest Dutchmen ever to row an Ocean. Having spent most of my life in Russia I do also consider myself part Ruski and therefore I might as well claim the 2nd ever and youngest Russian record!!!
Since being a little kid I have always loved the Ocean and spent a considerable time on sailing boats, resulting in me sailing across the Atlantic with my dad. For me rowing the Ocean is the culmination of my love and respect of the sea.
At the same time I am very conscious of how lucky I am; as a kid I was always able to pursue any sports I wanted, this is why I am very passionate about raising money for the Johan Cruyff Foundation. A charity that provides sport activities for children with disabilities and for children from less fortunate backgrounds.
Even though the other Tom is ginger I could not wish for a better partner, I am sure our strong friendship will keep us going for 2 months at sea!
Name: Tom Fancett
Age – 23 (turning 24 during the race)
From – London, UK
Hi everyone and welcome to our website! I’m the other half of Team Tom and this December I will be rowing Tomski across the Atlantic whilst he sunbathes and does his best to help out with the general cleaning and cooking etc.
During my final year of university I was searching (somewhat frantically) for my next step….. and, wanting to delay honest employment, mentioned to Tomski that I had long dreamt of attempting some sort of epic journey – ‘such as rowing the Atlantic’. The idea stuck with both of us and now, several months later, we find ourselves putting the dream into reality.
It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly why I want to do this and I probably give a different response each time I am asked. Though being the competitive person I am the great personal challenge and the race aspect definitely appeals. People say that it will be a ‘life changing experience’, though to be honest I don’t fully understand what that phrase means. However I know that I want to test my boundaries and find out what 60 or so days at sea will do. Also the chance to raise money for the worthy cause of the Johan Cruyff Foundation, knowing the important role that sport has played in my life and the values it instills, is a great motivation.
Thanks for your support!
